This thought-provoking semi-fictional novel brings environmental governance to life through storytelling, transforming the complex challenge of illegal mining (galamsey) into a compelling human story. Drawing inspiration from the principles and findings of Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA), the book demonstrates how evidence-based planning and policy can drive sustainable development and environmental protection. Set in the fictional nation of Hanag, The Last Dig explores innovative approaches to tackling environmental degradation while highlighting the value of Impact Assessment (IA) and SEA in shaping responsible decision-making. By blending advocacy, education, and storytelling, the book offers important lessons for policymakers, practitioners, researchers, students, and all those interested in environmental sustainability.
