The project aimed to support new partnership-based approaches to enable African researchers to grow transformational impact by working with, in, and for their communities. The core objectives were to:
- Understand how African eco-innovation systems work, how they differ from European models, and what innovations would be needed to achieve SDG’s 8 and 13
- Grow the capacity and capability in Africa’s eco-innovation community by developing and promoting innovations through better-skilled people
- Establish African research organisations as ‘anchor’ institutions that drive and sustain change
- Enable African researchers to co-design ambitious eco-innovation projects aimed at delivering a safe circular water economy for Africa
Scope of work:
- Water journey survey to ascertain water quality within the last 100 metres
- Rehabilitation of main community drainage channels in Gbegbeyise
- Provision of toilets and handwashing facilities
- Community behaviour change campaigns in Gbegbeyise, spearheaded by young change agents within the community
- Periodic toilet dislodging and MSW collection and disposal via the provision of waste skips in Gbegbeyise
- Facilitation of ICT training for change agents
