GreenAd had the distinct honour of hosting the Australian High Commissioner to Ghana at its City Mining Centre (CMC) in Agbogbloshie — a purpose-built e-waste collection and dismantling facility dedicated to promoting safe and sustainable recycling practices.

The visit formed part of the Australian Aid partnership with Pure Earth under the Coalition Against Lead Pollution (CLAP) Project. The Commissioner was accompanied by Rev. Dr. Esmond Wisdom Quansah, Africa Regional Programs Director of Pure Earth.

Moved by the realities on the ground, the Commissioner remarked,

“What I saw today is going to stay with me for a long time. I’m a little bit shocked — but that is the purpose of the visit.”

Welcoming the delegation, Mr. Yaw Amoyaw-Osei, Executive Director of GreenAd, outlined the organization’s ongoing efforts to tackle environmental pollution in Agbogbloshie. He emphasized the value of GreenAd’s collaboration with Pure Earth, which dates back to the Toxic Site Identification Project (TSIP) — a groundbreaking initiative that employed advanced soil sampling and XRF testing to identify and map contaminated sites across Ghana. The Agbogbloshie scrap yard, identified as a critical hotspot, has since become a major focus for remediation and awareness activities.

The Commissioner expressed her appreciation for the commitment of both organizations to improving environmental health and pledged the Australian High Commission’s readiness to support future collaborations aimed at fostering sustainable impact and protecting public health.

This visit reinforces GreenAd’s position as a key player in Ghana’s e-waste management ecosystem — advancing partnerships, research, and advocacy to build a cleaner and safer environment for all.
