“We are the first generation with the power to end poverty and the last with the chance to stop climate change,” declared Daniel Owiredu, Programs and Partnership Manager at GreenAd, as he stood before students of Accra High School. His passionate words were not just a statement, they were a call to action, urging young people to step into their role as changemakers for a sustainable future.

Daniel’s message came during an engaging session on “Understanding the SDGs & Youth Action” at this year’s International Youth Day celebration, held on Thursday, August 18, 2025. The event was organised by the National Youth Delegate of Ghana in collaboration with the All-Africa Students Union (AASU) and drew participation from students, educators, civil society, and policymakers.

With the theme “Local Youth Actions for the SDGs and Beyond: Preparing Students for Sustainable Actions in Ghana”, the celebration emphasized the urgency of mobilizing young people around the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The conversations focused on equipping students with knowledge and motivation to lead initiatives that tackle pressing issues such as poverty, climate change, inequality, and environmental degradation.

Distinguished Voices, Shared Vision

The event featured thought-provoking contributions from key leaders, including:

  • Madam Evelyn Sagbil Nabia, Headmistress of Accra High School
  • Bridget Nana Yaa Wilson, National Youth Delegate – Ghana, Commonwealth Youth Council
  • Jemilatu Mamshie Bawa, COO of the All-Africa Students Union
  • Mr. Inusah Mahama, Deputy CEO of the National Youth Authority
  • Eric Kwesi Taylor, CEO of Penyman Group Limited

Together, they delivered a powerful and unified message: the time for action is now. They reminded students that while the challenges facing Ghana and the world are immense, the youth hold the energy, creativity, and resilience to drive meaningful solutions.

GreenAd’s Commitment to Youth-Led Change

For GreenAd, youth engagement is a cornerstone of sustainable development. By sparking conversations on the SDGs and empowering young people to think critically about climate change, poverty, and social justice, we are helping to build a generation that is not only aware but also equipped to act.

The Accra High School celebration showcased what is possible when young people are inspired, informed, and supported. It underscored that building a sustainable Ghana requires the collective leadership of today’s youth, working boldly, innovatively, and inclusively.

At GreenAd, we believe that when the youth rise to the challenge, a resilient and sustainable future is within reach.
